Common Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't here, give us a call — we're happy to talk through it.
Are you a certified arborist?
Yes. Soul Tree Care is led by an ISA Board Certified Arborist (NE-7549A) and TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP-04744). These are nationally recognized credentials that require ongoing education and field experience to maintain. Most tree service companies in the Dover, Portsmouth, and Exeter area do not hold ISA Board Certified Arborist status — it's one of the key reasons homeowners choose Soul Tree Care.
Soul Tree Care serves residential and commercial properties throughout the NH Seacoast and Southern Maine, including Dover, Portsmouth, Exeter, Stratham, Rye, Kittery, York, Kennebunk, and surrounding communities. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, reach out and we'll let you know.
Yes. We offer free on-site estimates for all tree care services. Our lead arborist visits the property in person, assesses the work, and delivers a quote on-site — no guessing from photos or phone descriptions. Estimates are typically scheduled within one to two weeks.
Soul Tree Care specializes in ornamental pruning, hedge trimming and maintenance, shade tree pruning, tree removal, crane tree removal, limited access and technical climbing work, cabling and bracing, and contract tree services for commercial properties. We focus on higher-skill work — detailed pruning, difficult removals, and property care that requires a trained eye — rather than high-volume, equipment-heavy jobs.
That's exactly the kind of question a certified arborist is trained to answer. Many trees that look like they need to come down can actually be preserved with proper pruning, cabling, or structural support. We evaluate each tree individually — looking at species, structure, disease, and proximity to structures — before recommending removal. We never push removal if preservation is a viable option.
Ornamental pruning is the careful shaping and thinning of decorative trees and shrubs to improve their form, health, and appearance. Unlike standard tree trimming, ornamental pruning requires knowledge of how each species grows, when to prune without causing stress, and how to enhance the tree's natural structure rather than just cutting it back. Soul Tree Care specializes in this work for residential properties throughout Dover, Exeter, Portsmouth, and the surrounding Seacoast area.
Lead times vary by season. Spring and early summer are our busiest periods, and slots can book out two to four weeks in advance. Late summer and fall are typically easier to schedule. For recurring hedge and ornamental pruning work, we recommend reaching out early in the season to secure your preferred timing. Emergency situations are handled on a case-by-case basis depending on crew availability.
